Red Wine /// Viognier & Chenin B. // All Over / South Africa
BLANKbottle is not bound to a specific wine area or wine style. It’s from many different vineyards, scattered across the Western Cape of South Africa, different regions, micro-climates, soil types, and ultimately leads to different wine styles. It is driven by quality, adventure, excitement and mystery. And at the centre of it all, are the guys in the vineyards, viticulturists, winemakers, family, friends and BLANKbottle fans.
Since it’s maiden vintage in 2007, this wine changed quite a lot. In 2007, it was a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin blanc and Viognier - 3 vineyards. The 2018 vintage however, consists of 5 components - 3 Chenin blanc vineyards called Boberg, Spogblok and Draai-Draai as well as Grenache Blanc and Viognier. All the components were fermented in old French Oak barrels 225, 300, 400 and 500L. Spontaneous fermentation with 1-year aged on the Lees. Moment of Silence is arguably our most successful wine.
With aromas of guava, pineapple, honeyed peach, and a hint of fynbos which melds with the faintest notes of classy old wood. It has a lovely generous texture but this is kept in check and it's not big. The Viognier comes through nicely, which we love. Balancing the full bodied feel in this vintage there is a lively clarity and freshness. BLANK
