2 OF EACH OF THE CHARDONNAY & PINOT NOIR
1 OF EACH OF THE AUXERROIS & ROSE
Mind has been blown after tasting Pascal Henriot of Coteaux de Champlitte. I can't recall a producer offering such profound purity, finesse and most importantly: value for money, you simply cannot find value like this is greater Burgundy. Pascal does absolutely everything on these wines right up to (poorly at times it must be said!!) hand labelling each and every bottle. He deals in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay. He is the only independent wine maker left in Coteaux de Champlitte. Pascal has a wicked sense of humour. He doesn't use any chemicals or additives because he says that he can't afford them. One suspects this is to distance himself from the Natural Wine cult.
The Pinot is ethereal and luxurious, the Chardonnay is modern, lean and stylish. Auxerrois is a rare grape, and it's juicy, oily character suggests we are missing out by not seeing it around more. The Rose is a magnificently savoury and food-friendly Autumn Rose. They're all underpinned by vibrancy and tension with their racy acidity. These are stunning wines and this level of value and quality cannot be found anywhere in Burgundy. STSWine
