French regulators messed with the wrong man. Wine maker, environmental advocate and local badass Fabien Jouves was told what he could put in his wine - they ordered him to eliminate Jurancon Noir from his blend. He responded by flamboyantly naming his wine, and bottlling in a Burgundy bottle as opposed to the regionally used Bordeaux one. If you were expecting a vinous version of Joe Pesci, you would be wrong. Fabien Jouves is a young and thoughtful winemaker who has watched too much Martin Scorsese, he is also extremely talented.
The wine is brimming with energy and intensity. Jurancon Noir, Malbec, Merlot & Valdiguie in the blend. This matches Fabien Jouves's signature buzziness with a satisfying core of dark fruit, must be the Malbec. Open with mates and glug.
The average age of the vines is 50 years and it comes mostly from limestone and clay soils. Bio-dynamic, manual harvest, natural yeast, whole bunch and then concrete and used barrels. This be delicious! STSWine
