Red Wine /// Pinot Noir // Martinborough / New Zealand
The original NZL Pinot Noir winery - it all began with the 'gumboot clone'. Legend has it that someone (apparently a rugby player) stroked a vine from Vosne Romanee's most famous producer, Domaine De La Romanee Conti and smuggled it back to NZL.
It was quarantined on arrival. The quarantining officer, a winemaker knew the importance and asked the government could he propagate it. A cutting found its way to Clive Patton, the owner of Ata Rangi. It is now the benchmark for NZL Pinot Noir. This is one of the best wines they have ever produced. STSWine
