Red Wine /// Sangiovese // Tuscany / Italy
The aromatics are dark at first, crushed black cherry & plum, opening to reveal sweet herbs, tobacco, with moist soil and hints of worn leather. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with a mix of black and red berry fruits, enlivened by brisk acids, as sweet minerals settle in. The finish is long, with a dark, alluring sweetness, as notes of spiced-black cherry and sweet floral tones slowly fade. There is a balance and sheer enjoyability factor to the Pian Delle Vigne Rosso that's impossible to ignore. ERIC GUIDO, Vinous

Good lord - quite a flamboyant note there from the new guy Eric Guido at Vinous (give the kid Antinori, see what he can do). Always a good wine. Rosso di Montalcino is a younger, cheaper alternative to Brunello that does not require the same level of oak ageing. Some producers will declassify their Brunello fruit to make a Rosso (in poor vintages, for cash flow purposes or because of doubts about the evolution of the fruit) and some producers will specifically grow and produce a Rosso from designated vines. This is the latter. Gorgeous bright fruit with the unmistakable vibrancy of Montalcino. This wine is made by Italy's famous Antinori clan. STSWine
