Red Wine /// Pinot Noir // Burgundy / France
A rare treat. Firstly, Pinot Noir from Chassagne is rare as it is ground zero for the world's best chardonnay. More acutely though, this is a Monopole, meaning that the vineyard is owned exclusively by Bernard Moreau. This is so rare because of the fragmented ownership of all of the vineyards of Burgundy. STSWine

The 2013 la Cardeuse had been racked into tank three weeks before my visit, but was showing no ill effects from its movement and was absolutely singing. The elegance of the vintage is played off to fine advantage here, as the wine jumps from the glass in a lovely blend of sweet dark berries, black cherries, cocoa, a beautiful base of soil, a touch of vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with great focus and grip, suave tannins and a long, complex and vibrant finish. This will need five or six years in the cellar to fully blossom, but it is going to be an outstanding wine and will offer excellent value as well. 2020-2050. 92+ Points, THE SORTING TABLE
