2 x G. N. Guerra Red & 1 x Buccia not Battles White
The new releases from Cancedda O'Connell, Dublin Mick O'Connell's epynonymous Sardinian wine project landed last week, and we were one of the first to try them. The Red, Garnacha not Guerra is Version 5 (non-vintage) and the White, Buccia not Battles is Version 1 (non-vintage).
This is the definition of a cult wine producer. Everything is natural and small scale, and Mick jokingly suggests he hopes someone makes money from it. This is a true labour of love, from the footstomping to the free labour extracted from family.
BUT THE WINES! The wines are absolutely delicious and it is easily the best release yet. Red Garnacha/Connonau is super expressive and intense and spicy, the white Vermentino is fresh but layered and pithy. The alcohol is low (12.5% & 11%) the chemicals and intervention are non-existent - JUMP ON IT NOW!
