Super old, super trad. this winery was started in 1886 and is still going strong. The winery and the vineyards are located in Aldeanueva de Ebro in the heart of Rioja Oriental (formerly known as Rioja Baja (or lower). There have now been 7 generations of the same family that have been custodians to the famous sites, they make unbridled, salt of the earth Rioja - old school. (3 x Joven, and one of each of the 2 Crianzas and one La Mateo Reserva)
Letargo Temoranillo Joven is made from 100% Tempranillo from the youngest vines in all of their parcels. The fruit is destemmed and not subject to oak, making it ultra pure. Letargo Crianza is 85% Tempranillo aged for a year in a mix of new and old American and French oak, further elevage in bottle give it great depth. Tio Martin Crianza is darker and deeper, with less of an overt oak presence. La Mateo is from 50 year old vines, 70% Tempranilllo, 30% Garnacha, malolactic in French oak and then further elevage in French and American, very intense, but deep and balanced. STSWine
