El Mozo 6-Pack: New Wave, Modern Rioja

While EL MOZO is new-wave, they actually make their wines the same way the locals used to make wine before the advent of commercial Rioja. New wave Rioja n Roll, made in the old way! El Mozo is a family label based in Rioja Alvesa. This 6-Pack contains three of the ultra reliable Herrigoia, and one of each of the upper wines of Malaspiedras, and El Cosmonauta y El Viaje en el Tiempo and El Cosmonauta en el Barranco de Agua (a rare white Rioja). All fully organic.

Herrigoia is a field blend made from Tempranillo and a host of other varieties (including white Viura) all thrown in a vat togeher and made via carbonic maceration, which is a method of natural fermentation a-la Beaujolais. It carries some of the same bightly-toned, red fruit characteristics. Malaspiedras is 100% Tempranillo, with a good lick of oak making it feel more conventional, but with great freshness. El Cosmo. (Red) is made in the same way as Herrigoia but result in more depth and complexity, the El Cosmo. (Green) is Malvasia and Viura, aged on fine lees in barrels.
