Description
There are three kinds of winemaking genius. First, the classicists, then, the innovators, and the third group are those rare geniuses who act upon intuition. One cannot classify their wines; they are simply inimitable, because those wines have somehow encrypted in their tasting profile the unique combination of their terroir’s message, along with the personality of their creator. Intuitive geniuses are transmitters of feelings and visions. Raúl Pérez is the archetype of the intuitive winemaking genius. DECANTER MAGAZINE
Spain's chief prognosticator of Godello and Mencia. A protege (as so many are) of Alvaro Palacios, Perez did not imitate Alvaro, but learned from him and produced his own style and identity as a wine maker. This identity is to just make extraordinarily good wines. There is no Perez Style, all of his creations are a masterclass in depth, balance, substance and tension.
The entry level La Clave is a field blend Red. Ultreia St Jacques is his regional 100% Mencia, Ultreia Godello is his regional 100% Godello. El Rapolao & La Poulosa are his single vineyards Mencia's, while La Del Vivo is his village Godello and is an experience. All rate between 92 and 95 points from the major wine press. Do yourself a favour. STSWine
