I first visited Celler del Roure in Valencia in 2014. These were revitalising and rejuvinating the old vineyards, old varieties and old amphorae clay pots in the winery. Unlike the other Spanish wines that were widely available, these wines were buzzy and elegant, but full of soul. The head wine maker calls his reds; red wine with the spirit of a white wine.
The clean and eye catching design has ensured that the wines are as prominent in the minds of consumers as sommeliers and retailers. Cullerot, the lone white is a blend, a galaxy of traditional varieties aged in amphorae, it a a beautiful dry white easy drinking, but somehow complex and deep at the same time.
Vermell is the entry level red, the workhorse that will be familiar to STSWiners and anyone who has navigated a shop shelf or wine list.
Safra, demonstrates the bright, lifted, floral nature of Mando, while Parotet is aged a little further, producing a savoury wine with spectacular depth and length.
The wines seem to go from strength to strength, establishing a new ceiling with every vintage, the reviews and scores just get better and better. Cullerot and Vermell have each scooped 92 points from Wine Advocate, Safra 94 and Parotet 95 points. We have put together a 6-Pack with 3 of the flagship Vermell and one of each of the Cullerot, and the incredible Safra & Parotet.
