2 of each of Etna Bianco & Rosso & 1 of each of their upper Red & White
Pietradolce is a pioneer in the Mount Etna risorgimento (‘resurgence’). Making wine from the indigenous varieties of Carricante & Nerello Mascalese matching traditional wine making techniques with innovation.
Etna is a live volcano, gnarly old vines sit amongst lava stones and red volcanic soil. The vines have been brought from the brink of extinction to lofty prominence and are the trendy hot ticket it town.
The wines are electrifying, the entry level white is like Italian Chablis, while the step up, the Archineri is more intense and complex (with the same thunder bolt of acidity and minerality. The entry red introduces the savoury beauty of Nerello Mascalese, while Contrada Rampante shows what the grape is capable of (2017, it is in its ideal drinking window too).
The wines are perennial darlings and high scorers amongst the critics. STSWine
