These vines were planted well before Jean Pillot, who still visits the winery regularly, was born in 1931, so they have probably passed their centenary. The 2019 Clos St-Jean offers an ideal imperial purple, colour, a fine yet discreet nose because the balance is perfect, and the best acidity of the Pillot reds. This is a really first rate example: long, poised and delicious with considerable ageing potential. 95 POINTS, JASPER MORRIS
