Ribera del Duero is a young region in Spain North of La Rioja that deal exlusively in Tempranillo, known regionally as Tinta Pais. It is a desolate and elevated plateau with harsh dry conditions that specialises in dark, inky rich wines. Robust use of French and American oak makes them showy and flambouyant at times, they are generally very firm and age worthy.
